The Great School Run 2024 will take place on Sunday 21st April
Not heard of The Great School Run before? It’s not a school run of the ordinary kind, not the quick dash from home to the classroom. It’s not just a competition either. The Great School Run is a celebration of community spirit and the joy of running.
The event idea came together in a collaboration between Rupert House School and Stonor Park with the vision to create an inclusive family-oriented sports event that would bring the local school and nursery community together and keep children and adults active. The event takes place in the beautiful grounds of Stonor Park and is supported by 'Education Henley,' a local collaboration of educational institutions dedicated to sharing resources and knowledge for the benefit of all children and young people in education in and around Henley-on-Thames.
From the tiniest sprinters in the nursery to the seasoned runners sixth form or college, we believe that running is for everyone, and that it's a great way to have fun and inspire a love for fitness.
The event is free of charge, but we suggest a donation to this year's chosen charity - 'Be Free Young Carers' using the button below. 'Be Free Young Carers' is the only charity in Oxfordshire devoted to improving young carers' wellbeing an opportunities, through the provision of recreational, emotional and social support.
The Great School Run of Henley is organised by Education Henley, which is an organisation formed by a group of representatives from primary and secondary schools located in and around Henley-on-Thames.
It aims to work with local clubs, charities and businesses for the benefit of children and in support of the local community.
It is possible to register in-person on the day, so you can just ‘show up and run’. However, for our planning, it would be really helpful if you could register online in advance. Please do so using this link
While the event is free, we suggest a £2 donation to charity.
Free parking and toilet facilities are available on the day and the possibility to buy some delicious refreshments. Please bring some cash as card payments don’t always work in our area of weak or no phone/wifi signal.
Please be aware that children’s supervision will strictly be their guardians’ responsibility at all times. Where appropriate, you may want to encourage your little race participants to run independently by following our friendly ‘hares’. Hugs and high-fives will be waiting for them at the finish line. If you are planning to run yourself in the grown-up races (hooray!), it is your responsibility to ensure that your child is looked after while you do so.
Please wear appropriate clothing and shoes for running on grass. No spikes are allowed. You are very welcome to come in your school’s PE kit as proud ambassadors if you would like. Please remove any jewellery that could get caught.
Please bring your own pre-filled water bottles to ensure you stay hydrated and some cash should you wish to buy any treats or donate to our charitable cause. Card payments may not be available on the day.
Please let our friendly team at the Registration Desk know on the day if you don’t give permission for your photo to be taken or shared in the local press, on this or Rupert House School’s website.
While dogs are allowed on the estate if kept on leads at all times, they are not allowed at Tumblestone Hollow. To minimise distraction from the race, we would encourage you to please leave your dogs at home where possible.
At the Great School Run, we believe in promoting an inclusive, respectful and welcoming environment for all participants. Whether you identify as male, female, or prefer not to associate with a specific gender, you are welcome to participate in the race you feel is the best fit for you.
but... the school or nursery with the most runners has a chance to win a prize! Don’t worry, this competition isn't just for the big schools. We're looking at the percentage of race entrants relative to the size of the school or nursery. So whether you're a small, medium or large school, you still have an equal chance of winning! Teachers, parents or pupils, come and join the fun and help represent your school with a great team!
